September 12 WednesdayWednesdayPhew, that’s the first week over! I tell you, it’s been non-stop, feeding, cleaning unmentionable parts, settling them down for a snooze, then we start all over again - day and night! When does a dog get a break? Still, the bonus is I get meals brought to me four times a day….and if I look extra hungry ‘Er brings me another. Mind you, I have to practice that pathetic look when she’s out of the room. I’m upstairs at the moment in one of the bedrooms, just till the little ones get their eyes and legs (oh, and their voices, no doubt!). Then we will be downstairs where all the coming and going is. Do you know?…’Er snores! As if having babies was bad enough, I have to put up with that at night! Give me strength. Oh yes, talking of strength, ‘Er gives me this special liquid. It’s called isoteronic, isotrunic, isotoenic or something….anyway, it’s for weeds and wimps that can look pathetic and weak..oh I can do that all right. It replaces all the fluids in the body and restores energy. Taffle has it after Flyball but I get to drink lots of it while I have the babies. It’s chicken flavour, quite delicious. Ah well, back to work, what a dog has to do to keep one step ahead of the little treasures…..tarah!
September 07 FridayFriday
Well, what a week! It started ok, nice and quiet but then I started to feel funny in the night. Could I get any sleep? I tossed and turned nearly all night and kept ‘Er awake as well. She went into fast mode and zoomed around doing this and that then bundled me into the whelping box. But, I took my time and it was well into the afternoon before I produced Number One. That was ‘Bronze’. So, I decided that was enough for the moment and chilled out for a few hours but later on Number Two was on it’s way. Half way through I decided enough was really enough and downed tools, so do you know what they did? They (‘Er and Aunty Sue, who was midwife in chief) chucked me and Number One in the car and took us off to the vet man. I know ‘Er has a soft spot for him but that late at night! Please! Then, to my utter disgust, he gave me a jab in my leg. Well, that did the trick, Number Two came into the world, in the back of the car on Aunty Sue’s knee! That was ‘Silver’. So, there you have it, the twins. I sorted them out, cleaned the important bits, lined them up and chilled out for the rest of the night and well into the following day. ‘Er seemed quite happy with things so left me to it, kept popping in every now and again to ogle and coo. So, just as things were getting back to normal that funny feeling came again and ‘Er nowhere to be seen. Well, I ask you, what is a dog supposed to do. I just had to get on with it and do you know when she turned up? Yeh, that’s right, when it was all over and I had done all the messy bits. Sometimes I just despair. Anyway that was ‘Gold’ so we have Bronze, Silver and Gold….take a look, I think there are some photos there. Well, got to go and get on with it, funny how ‘Er is never around at feeding and nappy changing time!
August 27 MondayMonday, Well, it seems ‘Er is a bit worried. She can’t figure out why I am not bulging at this stage but I am supposed to only be having twins so how big does she think I should be! Mind you, I can understand some of her concern because there’s not a great deal going on in there. Anyway, looks like another trip to the vet man tomorrow just to be on the safe side. Personally, I think it’s because she likes him. I wonder if I will get another of them scans. It’s great fun to see the little darlings. I wonder if you can tell whether they are going to be girls or boys? Just think. When technology catches up you may even be able to see the colour in the future. Today has been a lovely day, lots of time over at the field where I can follow rabbit trails and eat things I am not supposed to. Yesterday was a bit dull. Taffle and Squiffy went off for the day with ‘Er to do Flyball. Taffle was full of herself when she got home; telling me how important she is in the team and how they did some winning. All she could talk about was Bramble, the other Spanish. It was Bramble this and Bramble that…..only because he kept fussing round her and sniffing things that I do not wish to discuss! Well, off to get my beauty sleep and look my best for tomorrow. I hope he doesn’t ruffle my curls too much when he is examining me. It takes a lot of time and effort to look this good. August 21 TuesdayTuesday, I have to say, although I am only having twins, I have put on some weight recently. I pride myself on my racing snake figure, so I can’t say I am particularly taken by the new chunky look. Still, once it is all over and done with I can get back to some serious ball chasing and I shall be back to normal in no time. I do love my ball. ‘Er has got one of those ball launcher things and she can chuck the ball a fair distance but, as quick as you can say, “Jack Flash” I have got it back again. At the moment I am not allowed to play with it much in case I do something nasty like jumping and twisting. I do miss the fun. My sister, Taffle, the talented one, is off to a Flyball competition this weekend. She runs for the ‘Yeller-bellies’. Sounds odd, doesn’t it but it’s an old Lincolnshire term and has nothing to do with being a coward. Of course, I won’t get to go (again!) so I’ll have to stay at home and make sure ‘im indoors is looked after. Well, someone has to take charge and he ought not to be left home alone…..gets into all sorts of scrapes! Flipping weather, I’m fed up of it……it has been like Autumn here, dull and cold. So, what happened to the long hot summer that was predicted? The weather has only been fit for ducks…oh and water dogs! I’ll tell you about our field sometime, in all that rain we had our own personal lake and it was great fun. Well, time to get ready for bed, now, where’s my teddy and hot water bottle? August 19 SundaySundayOh, what a dull weekend it has been. First of all I had to stay at home while my mum and sister went to play in the water, then today it has been overcast and raining. We have these men coming tomorrow to put some new windows in so ‘Er and ‘im have been busy all day taking curtains down and covering furniture up. What was wrong with the ones that are already there beats me but you know what these humans are like….always spending money on the house when they could be spending it on us dogs. ‘Er has sorted out the whelping box. We have this huge one in storage but it’s too big for me, especially as I am only having twins, so ‘Er went to Currys for a box. Just as she got there a fridge freezer was being unloaded so she got the box it came in. Well, you should have seen ‘Er putting it in the car! It would just go in if it went right through to the front and she held it up with her head. She drove home like that! Thankfully, she didn’t get stopped. Talk your way out of that one! Anyway, ‘Er has cut it down with a Stanley knife, made an entrance and taped up the edges so it’s all ready. (I wonder who Stanley was? At least he invented some sharp knives). Apart from that, it’s been a long, boring day. It’s too wet to go for a walk and too early to go to bed. I suppose ‘Er will want the telly on again so I’ll go and find ‘im and look hungry so that he gets the dog treats out. If anyone wants lessons in how to look pathetic and starving let me know and I’ll show you, works every time with ‘im! |
